UNIT 1: GET READY TO USE TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM

Technology can help equip classrooms to do more real-world activities and by using the technology schools prepare students better for a world swamped with technology. More workplaces use technology so students should have the opportunity to get comfortable with the technology they will most likely use in their workplace. Technology can help teachers accomplish the daily tasks in the classroom with more ease and efficiency. It can help work the 4 C's into the classroom to help both the students and the teachers grow. It allows students to collaborate with other peers and even experts. It also gives students access to information and people that they wouldn't have before. G Suite for Education gives educators access to a number of reliable helpful tools.

Google Classroom is a tool built specifically for teachers to help them streamline their classroom. Teachers create a class add students, create assignments and send out announcements. Classroom allows teachers to see which students have completed their assignments and which ones are still working. It also allows educators to assign grades and give feedback when the students are finished. Google drive is an online hard drive that allows students to save all of their files. The files can be accessed by any device, and it automatically saves. (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Forms, Google Slides, and Google Drawings). There are many Google tools created to connect students and save time; Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Hangouts, Google Sites, and Google Groups. Tools out side of G Suit for Education that can be used in collaboration with G Suite are; Chrome, YouTube, Google Maps/Earth, and Blogger. When choosing what tools to use in the classroom the teacher should consider their learning goals and their basic understanding of the Google tool.

Teachers know how to teach students to be good citizens but in the world of increased technology it's important to teach good digital citizenship. There are two foundation components of good citizenship 'protect', and 'respect'. There are also three pillars of digital responsibility: copyright and fair use, online safety, and communication. Students need to be aware of their digital presence through social media and posted items. Also making sure that all their pictures are copyright free. Students can use incognito tabs when on shared devices and should clear search history to help keep private material private. Schools are creating guides and procedures to help students and adults know how to act online. Several organizations have created material on this topic to be incorporated into curriculum for the students.

Textbooks are important part of any classroom but technology can be used to enhance the textbook. Teachers should use technology to make the classes more engaging. Educators are using technology to bring the students lives into the classroom, things that are relevant to them (YouTube).
